American Red Cross of Greater New York
Thanks to the American Red Cross, some Superstorm Sandy victims remained in hotels this weekend despite the end of a city-sponsored program.
Some advocates suggested the relief organization should have acted with more urgency in the weeks after the storm and left long-haul recovery tasks to someone else.
The Red Cross has offered support to those who witnessed Friday’s Midtown shooting near the Empire State Building. The organization is typically known for offering shelter, food and clothing during disasters. But the non-profit also said they help out with cold drinks and snacks for first responders, and mental health services for bystanders who witness traumatic events.
