Mets left-handed reliever Daniel Herrera will reportedly undergo Tommy John surgery after doctors found a tear in his left elbow. Herrera went 0-1 with a 1.13 ERA in 16 games for New York last season.
Mets reliever Tim Byrdak is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, according to CBSSports’ Jon Heyman.
Jonathan Niese was sharp on Wednesday in Jupiter as the Mets shutout the Marlins 7-0. Niese was a little anxious to get going before his first spring start, but he delivered two solid innings, striking out 2 while walking one. Niese was pretty happy with his performance.
