Dion Waiters had 18 points and James Southerland scored all 10 of his points in the final 8 minutes to lead No. 2 Syracuse to a 58-55 victory over Connecticut on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.
Despite some theories that a double bye could hurt Syracuse, it’s difficult to see Jim Boeheim’s team not playing Saturday night for a Big East title.
Brandon Triche scored 18 points, Kris Joseph added 11 in the final home game of his career, and second-ranked Syracuse beat No. 19 Louisville 58-49 on Saturday.
Syracuse’s outstanding depth has been without question their biggest strength this season and the major reason why the Orange are 23-1 and a likely lock for a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Kris Joseph may be leading the Orange in scoring and rebounding but Dion Waiters’ intangibles are a major reason why Jim Boeheim’s team is starting to resemble a runaway train.
