Dominican Day Parade
Singer/songwriter Henry Santos was named this year’s “padrino,” or godfather, of the parade.
The parade route began at Sixth Avenue and 37th Street and marched up to 52nd Street.
The parade ended at 2 p.m., but festivities will continue all afternoon and evening throughout the city, with lots of celebrating taking place in Washington Heights. Much of Sixth Avenue is expected to be closed off through the evening.
Jennifer Delarosa from Brooklyn said the rain may have kept the crowd away from the parade, but all that meant was that they had to sing and scream a lot louder to make up for their absence.
This Sunday is the 30th Annual Dominican Day Parade and while it promises to be a day full of floats, music and fun, what officials say it won’t be is disorderly.
