Violent Thunderstorms Wreak Havoc On Tri-State Area

At one point, 20,000 Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) customers were without power. Con Edison had a few hundred customers without power in Westchester. Several outages were also reported in Connecticut and New Jersey.

Nassau Cop Shot, Suspect Dead, After Early Morning Incident In East Meadow

Police say for some reason a struggle broke out, the suspect — identified as 41-year-old Duane Oxley — fought for the officers gun and the officer was shot in the leg. The suspect was shot and killed by a second police officer.
