A suspected case of the mumps at Smithtown High School East on Long Island has been confirmed, Suffolk County officials said Tuesday.
Once mumps invades a professional sports dressing room, it finds a fertile breeding ground and the NHL is finding that it is not easy to get rid of.
The cases were reported last week, and all the students were isolated to their homes off-campus, WCBS 880’s Jim Smith reported. No new cases have been reported since.
There is an increased health concern at Fordham University Thursday after a total of 13 students are believed to have come down with the mumps.
Eight students on the Bronx campus of Fordham University have contracted mumps.
Most of the suspected cases, including the one confirmed case, are connected to D’Jais Bar & Grill in Belmar.
Most of the cases have been linked to D’Jais Bar and Grill in Belmar. The popular Jersey shore establishment voluntarily closed last week and 32 employees were given the mumps vaccine.
The number of cases jumped from seven Wednesday to 22 Thursday.
