Protected Heron Recovering After Being Shot, Wounded In Nassau County

The bird was shot in the wing with a pellet gun and suffered fractures in two places, officials said. The heron has undergone surgery.

Gary Rogers with the Nassau SPCA said in the case of Miss Harper – the pit bull mix that had her leg and ears cut off – those charged were convicted of abusing another dog before that incident.

Abused Pit Bull Puppy, Miss Harper, Reunites With Mom On L.I.

Miss Harper was found last September with her ears and leg cut off. Her mother, Missy, was rescued Wednesday by the Nassau County SPCA. Officials said she was being used to breed puppies that were then brutally abused.
