Police Athletic League
Hundreds of kids got an early appearance from Santa Saturday, thanks to the Police Athletic League.
The exhibit is part of a program called Making Science Make Sense. The goal is to get kids excited about science.
The city has created an Engagement Center, located at the Police Athletic League building in West Harlem, that will help battle truancy by offering students a number of services including tutoring and mental health counseling.
The program lets city kids safely play in certain streets and cool off from the summer heat under the sprinkling of a fire hydrant.
One New York City student was declared Police Commissioner for a Day on Wednesday. That distinction was bestowed upon Manhattan 12th grader Gabriel Gomez after he won an annual essay competition organized by the PAL.
The Police Athletic League held its annual holiday party in Harlem on Saturday.
