Danny Chen’s former platoon leader was removed from the Army on Tuesday but will avoid a trial as part of an agreement with prosecutors, the Army announced.

Pvt. Danny Chen, of Chinatown, shot himself on Oct. 3, 2011 in Afghanistan after weeks of racial slurs, humiliation and physical abuse by his colleagues, military officials said.
Pvt. Danny Chen of Chinatown committed suicide in Afghanistan in October. The resolution calls on the U.S Department of Defense to closely examine its policies around cultural diversity and sensitivity.
Speaking a news conference on Wednesday, Pentagon spokesman Navy Capt. John Kirby offered his condolences to the family of Pvt. Danny Chen.
Chen, who was from Chinatown, was found dead in his barracks back in October with what was described as “non-combat injuries.” He was just 19.
