Shanel Nadal and Nephra Payne spoke with CBS 2’s Christine Sloan to let the nation know why they kidnapped their eight biological children.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown called Tuesday’s guilty plea by 28-year-old Shanel Nadal and 24-year-old Nephra Payne “just and fair.”
According their lawyer, the parents gave one of the kids a cell phone to keep with them while in foster care and were told to keep it their pockets. The couple accuses ACS of physically and sexually abusing their children.
The attorney for 28-year-old Shanel Nadal and 34-year-old Nephra Payne said they kidnapped their children out of desperation because no one was listening to them.
“Any mother who’s going through this — do what you got to do to protect your kids,” Nadal told reporters.
Police and federal authorities continue to search for a mother who allegedly abducted her eight children from a Queens foster care facility during a supervised visit.
Police are asking for help in finding 28-year-old Shanel Nadal, who is accused of “custodial interference” with regard to her her eight children.
