Coleman: A Nice Start For Niese

Jonathan Niese was sharp on Wednesday in Jupiter as the Mets shutout the Marlins 7-0. Niese was a little anxious to get going before his first spring start, but he delivered two solid innings, striking out 2 while walking one. Niese was pretty happy with his performance.

The New York Mets have signed relief pitcher Tim Byrdak to a 2012 contract. A 37-year-old lefty specialist, Byrdak is 2-0 with a 2.89 ERA in 37 1-3 innings.
