James Gandolfini died Wednesday in Rome at age 51.
An autopsy confirmed that the New Jersey native and actor died of a heart attack, with no evidence of substance abuse or foul play, a family spokesman said Friday.
Those who followed the series religiously know that sports was a big part of Tony Sopranos’ life.
Hospital officials in Rome say actor James Gandolfini arrived at the hospital at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday and was pronounced dead at 11 p.m. after resuscitation efforts in the ambulance and hospital failed.
“I do want to say to the people out there, the thing that got me about (Gandolfini) was he was such a humble guy,” actor and writer Chazz Palminteri told WFAN host Mike Francesa on Thursday. “Just a humble, nice, really sweet man.”
News of “The Sopranos” star’s passing spread quickly on Twitter, which became a place of mourning — even if your feed was exclusively sports-related.
