Grant To United Way To Help With Long-Term Sandy Recovery Effort

The donations collected after Sandy struck on Oct. 29 will go to communities in seven states: Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia.

Census Data: 21 Percent Of New Yorkers Live In Poverty

The one percent increase in the poverty rate comes even as the city has gained back all of the jobs it lost in the recession. The national average is 15.9 percent.
