CBS2’s Christine Sloan spoke to one family who said a pole problem is taking a toll on them.
An older, shorter pole at the edge of West Fingerboard Road has been replaced by a new pole not more than a foot away, but the replacement was put right in the center of the sidewalk.
An 80-year-old woman’s car caught fire after she drove into a utility pole that collapsed and caused an electrical fire on Long Island on Saturday afternoon, police said.
Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said the man, whose identity was not released, struck a utility pole at an intersection.
The poles were apparently weakened by either insects or rotted wood.
