Bratton, 65, was commissioner from 1994 to 1996 under Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He spoke to reporters after delivering the keynote speech at a symposium on school safety at Purchase College in the New York suburbs.
Astorino said the aim is to create stronger bonds between the two sides since they would need to work together in the event of an active shooter situation at a school. But much of the focus was also on balancing efforts in mental health care with school violence prevention efforts.
The Safer Communities initiative will formally kick off on Feb. 27 at a school safety symposium at SUNY Purchase to bring the two sides together.
These days, when so many people seem self absorbed, the push is on to show some manners and kindness to those who need a hand.
