Best Oscar Viewing Parties In NYC

While it's fun to ooooooo and awwwwwwww on your couch, it's even more fun to exclaim over dresses and laugh at gaffes in a group, which is why Oscar viewing parties have become so popular. The 2015 Academy Awards take place on Sunday, Feb. 22, and these are our five favorite events at which to watch them. By Jessica Allen.

Ahead of the Oscars comes the first annual PupScout Pre-Oscar Pawty. Dress your four-legged friend in his/her best attire, then don your own gown or tux. Your ticket includes a glass of champagne as well as a magnet or badge made from a photo of your turn on the red carpet. (For an extra $15, you can get unlimited Prosecco.) There will also be a fashion show of Oscar impersonator gowns featuring the work of Ada Nieves, certified pet fashion designer, animal talent manager, and pet stylist.

Among the perks at the 2015 Oscar Party at Bow Tie Chelsea Cinemas are all-you-can-eat popcorn, all-you-can-drink soda, and all-you-can handle snark about the attendees from the Queen of Green, comedian Hedda Lettuce. By "attendees," we mean both the people on screen and in the audience: Hedda will often heckle, gently, those who come up on stage to accept the event's raffle prizes. It's all in good fun, and benefits Riedel Dance Theater, a NYC-based company that tries to tell stories through dance.

Hosted by the Skint, Littlefield's Academy Award Screening Party is free, unlike some of the other events on this list. If you RSVP, you get a free glass of champagne, but everyone gets free popcorn, voting ballots (the person with the most correct guesses gets a prize), themed drinks, access to the red carpet, pies from Daly Pie, and fun in the photo booth. A "Joan Rivers-esque interviewer" will be on hand to heighten the atmosphere, which is already pretty cool, considering the venue is a warehouse that dates to the 1920s.

louro

Louro's Oscar Viewing Party features a three-course meal inspired by the nominated films. Options range from "The Theory of Everything" garlic soup, which includes the "perpetual stew" that's been fermenting and tweeting since August 2014, to "American Sniper" venison, with piquillo peppers, mustard greens, hand-rolled tris di pasta, and smoked jus to "Gone Girl" Kansas City BBQ Ribs with corn bread and baked beans. A large screen tv tuned to the Academy Awards will ensure that you miss not a moment as you munch.

Here's what we love about Nitehawk: everything. Great programming, really funny promos before the screenings, drink and food service during the movie. What's not to love? Nothing, that's what. The Ultra-Mega Oscars event promises more of the same, including specials related to the nominated films (Would anyone like a method gin cocktail, in honor of "Birdman"? Yes, yes, we would. It features ginger beer, bitters, gin, spiced apple syrup, and cinnamon. That'd be us, front and center.).
