Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel, First Prize Pies
More: NYC’s 9 Best Cupcakes
Allison Kave didn’t start off hoping to become the newest pie star in New York City, she simply won the 1st Annual Brooklyn Pie Bake-Off. Now she can be found serving up slices all over the city or at her mom’s shop, Roni-Sue’s Chocolates. One bite of her chocolate peanut butter pretzel pie kicks up flavor overload, with sweet, salty and savory all in one.
Warm Apple Pie, Catch
This masterpiece by Catch’s pastry chef Thiago Silva is a testament to the young chef’s talent. The warm apple pie at the Meatpacking District seafood restaurant adds a kick to comfort food favorite. Infused with Bourbon meringue and raisins, the delectable dessert is served with vanilla ice cream.
Sour Apple Walnut Cream Pie, The Little Pie Company
424 West 43rd Street
New York, NY 10036
This decadent slice of pie is a best seller at this Hell’s Kitchen establishment. Handmade with granny smith apples and sour cream, it’s topped with brown sugar, cinnamon and walnut streusel. Other big hits at this pie haven are the Pure Apple Crumb, Southern Pecan, Mississippi Mud, Pumpkin and Key Lime.
Key Lime Pie, Sugar And Plumm
At newly opened Sugar and Plumm, famed pastry chef Pichet Ong is serving several slices for fall, including a key lime pie with an Oreo crust. The level of decadence in the slice is no surprise, as the boutique bistro is also a bakery, chocolateier, and self-proclaimed “purveyor of everything ‘yumm.’
Apple Pie, Red Rooster Harlem
Red Rooster Harlem is the place to go for down home cooking, and there’s no better way to top off your fried chicken dinner than with a slice of mud pie. Delicious as it may be, however, we prefer their warm apple pie, which has Cheddar cheese baked into the crust. It’s what you should be having on Thanksgiving.
Crack Pie, Momofuku Milk Bar
Pastry Chef Christina Tosi is known for her unique takes on classic flavors, and this slice is no exception. The Crack Pie at New York’s infamous sweet shop is as addictive as the name sounds. A custard-like filling is sweet to almost cloying, but with a rich butterscotch-like flavor.
Black Bottom Oat, Four & Twenty Blackbirds
Four & Twenty Blackbirds consistently tops “best of” lists thanks to perfected pies. We already named their famous salted caramel apple pie as one of the city’s best apple treats for fall. The Brooklyn bakery’s black bottom oat pie is a crunchy oat-filled crust covers a custard filling which covers a bottom layer of decadent dark chocolate.
Caramelized Onion& Goat Cheese, Pie Corps
Pie doesn’t always mean the sweet ending of a meal, and Pie Corps is trying to feed the masses delicious versions of their savory pies. One to pick up is their caramelized onion and goat cheese hand pies–it can easily be your lunch wrapped in a flaky pie crust.
