NYC's Summer Outdoor Movie Guide For 2016

Now that the weather's heating up, it's the perfect time to watch a movie outside. Here are five summer series not to miss! By Carly Petrone.

Spend your Thursday evenings watching movies and enjoying views of the Manhattan skyline from Harbor View Lawn at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Movies with a View has been screening films since 2000 and this year, you can enjoy a film every week in July and August. The series kicks off on July 14th with everyone's favorite stoner film, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle. Make sure to mark your calendars because you can enjoy amazing films like "Purple Rain" (July 21), "American Graffiti(Aug 4), "Selma" (Aug 11), and "A League Of Their Own" (Aug 18.) Don't forget to vote for the final film, which will screen on August 25. Choose between "The Sandlot,""Milk," or "La Bamba." Admission is free, but make sure to get there early to secure your spot.

Watch a movie under the stars at Bryant Park! Bring a blanket, enjoy a picnic, and check out a classic Warner Brothers cartoon before each film begins at sunset. The HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival runs now through August 22nd, with screenings of "Three Days of the Condor," "Harvey," "High Plains Drifter," "The Big Chill," and "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." There isn't a better place to enjoy a film than in the heart of the city. Lawn opens at 5 p.m.

Now's your chance to attend Brooklyn's longest running film and music series. SummerScreen is a free event that occurs every Wednesday evening in July and August at McCarren Park. Guests can enjoy a lineup of classic movies, live music, as well as plenty of local food and drink vendors. Get ready for action-packed films like "The Fast and the Furious," comedic classics like "The Royal Tenenbaums," and throwback favorites like "10 Things I Hate About You." The audience will get to choose the final film, which will screen on August 10th. Doors open at 6 p.m., music starts at 7 p.m., and films begin at sundown.

If you need a good laugh this summer, then make your way to Solar One on the Pier for The LOL Movie Series. Every Tuesday night you can watch a "Laugh out Loud" film starring a favorite funny lady. This summer's lineup includes "Clueless" (July 12), "Pitch Perfect" (July 19), "When Harry met Sally" (July 26), "Pretty In Pink" (Aug 2), and "My Blind Brother" (Aug 9). Doors open at 7:45 p.m. with live music and stand up comedy taking place before the film screenings. Make sure to RSVP on August 9th – there will be a special Q&A with "My Blind Brother" director Sophie Goodhart.

Your Monday evenings just got more exciting. Head down to Coney Island and snag your spot on the beach, because a giant 40-foot inflatable screen turns the beach into an outdoor movie theater. The fifth annual Coney Island Flicks on the Beach is gearing up for another wonderful summer with a mix of modern, classic and indie films. The series kicks off on July 18 with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and ends on August 15 with a screening of "Purple Rain." Bring the kiddos along on July 25 to see animated favorite "Inside Out," or watch a mix of rooftop short films on August 8. Check their website for complete film lineup and more details.
