The holidays can be taxing. If you feel like you need a little recovery time, enjoy a little vacation from the hustle and bustle and take advantage of some of the quiet, scenic spots outside of NYC. CBSNewYork has compiled a list of hiking trails, parks, golf courses and restaurants where you can head to blow off some steam outside the big city. By Erin Semple.

Cranberry Lake Preserve

Featuring a nature center and programs, Cranberry Lake Preserve is simply peaceful and home to birds, turtles and dragonflies among other animals. Pack a picnic and see the picturesque four-acre lake, cliffs and colorful forest.

George’s Island Park

The Hudson River is certainly pretty to look at, but this waterfront park also offers tidal wetlands, trails and even boat access. In the winter, it’s one of the best ways to see bald eagles in their natural habitat.

Westchester County Golf Courses

Golf can be a relaxing and stress-reducing game. This county offers six 18-hole courses to choose from. You can also find private golf courses throughout this county and adjacent ones.

Sprain Ridge Park

When it’s cold out, enjoy the hiking and mountain bike trails. Come summer, if you’re looking for a place to swim, this park provides a whole complex, arboretum and two picnic areas. Located off the Sprain Brook Parkway.

Rye Nature Center

This wildlife preserve features hiking trails, a 14-station self-guided trail, butterfly house, a museum of birds, snakes, gerbils, flying squirrels and honeybees.

Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge

The wildflower garden behind the museum will cheer up any mood. It is simply beautiful. For hikers, there are also 35 miles of trails. In the museum, see exhibits about the natural world and human history featuring specimens of birds, mammals, plants, insects and minerals.
