Spring is the busiest season in the arts world, with anything from international art fairs to opening exhibitions and beyond. Everyone knows that March in New York City is arts month. There seems to be an art show on every corner in March, but the start of it all is the Armory Show. The leading modern and contemporary international art fair, the Armory Show has some of the newest and most sought-after works of art on view. If you happen to have a few extra tens of thousands of dollars, you might even be able to bring home a work for your own living room.

The Whitney Museum moved its entire collection of American art from its home on Madison Avenue to a brand new building right off the High Line park. The new Renzo-Piano-designed building, the collection's fourth home, will be better suited to house the more than 21,000 works of art in the collection. The opening night and inaugural exhibition are sure to be one of the biggest celebrations in the art world. The Whitney is already promising its biggest exhibition of American art for its inaugural exhibition - you certainly won't want to miss it.

The New Museum is known for engaging audiences with some of the most contemporary and controversial works around. The triennial is described as "the only recurring international exhibition in New York City devoted to early-career artists from around the world." This year, 51 artists from 25 countries will be featured in the museum's third triennial. The underlying theme of the show will follow today's culture, especially the digitization of our world.

If someone tells you that gardening is not an art, just take them to the Botanical Garden's orchid show and they'll instantly retract their words. Every year, the NYBG puts on an orchid show that attracts thousands of visitors from around the world. The most colorful and unique flowers are displayed in natural habitats here for your enjoyment. The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory will be covered from floor to ceiling with nature's prettiest botanical specimens. If you've never gone before, this is the year to check it out.

If you're just starting out as a collector, the Affordable Art Fair provides exactly what it says - affordable art. Ranging in price from $100 to $10,000, more than half the works on display are under $5,000 apiece. The fair usually has a wall of $500-and-under pieces as well. Paintings and sculptures, prints and photographs are all on view here.
