Pop Up Shorts
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Selected Shorts series, there will be a number “pop up” shorts taking place across the city. Tonight, listen to actors Heather Burns (Bored to Death), Alex Karpovsky (Girls), and Dave Hill (Tasteful Nudes) perform surprising and moving stories at the Ace Hotel. Tickets are $8 and show starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Uncommons Anniversary Party
The Uncommons, Manhattan’s first and only board game café, is turning one! Starting at 5 p.m., you can buy a $10 ticket for unlimited gaming and your chance to win one great raffle prize. Tenement Talks: League of Kitchens
Food writer Molly O’Neill and League of Kitchens founder Lisa Gross sit down at the Tenement Museum tonight to talk about the power of cultural exchanges through cooking and eating together. League of Kitchens provides immersive experiences where immigrants teach intimate cooking workshops in their homes. Come learn more tonight starting at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Chef and Red Rooster owner Marcus Samuelsson will sit down with Top Chef judge Gail Simmons tonight at Barnes and Noble on the Upper East Side. He’ll discuss how he unwinds at home and make sure you come with a pen and paper in hand because he’ll be sharing a ton of his favorite multicultural dishes. Event begins at 7 p.m.
Come meet Tavi Gevinson, the girl who has done more in her teenage years than most people do in their lifetime, tonight at Housing Works Bookstore. She will sit down with author Janet Mock to talk about her latest book, Rookie Yearbook Three. Her latest work is a compendium of the best of the online magazine’s third year, including interviews, artwork, and new contributions from some of Rookie’s favorite people.
