Watch a preview of the film Women in Space, a new six-part PBS series that profiles the impact women have had over the past 50 years in six industries: comedy, politics, space, war, business, and Hollywood. Tonight, Rori Baldari of the Amateur Astronomer's Association will give a brief talk followed by stargazing (weather permitting). Screening starts at 6 p.m.

Celebrate opening night of the CBGB Festival with a conversation on the nature of sound and image from Grammy Award Winning musician/producer Daniel Lanois. He will also premiere selection from Lanois and The Modern School of Films collaboration "Flesh and Machine…The Films" as well as clips from his past works. Event begins at 6 p.m. and tickets are $15.

Sci-Fi nerds unite! Make your way over to Union Hall in Brooklyn for a night of nerdy fun. Host/writer Chris Cummins will present New York Super Week's Sci-Fi Explosion, a cosmic cabaret of craziness that will be highlighted by a performance by Carmen Martella III, a talk by pop culture expert Ben Leach on strange foreign move posters, and curated video clips that showcase the weirder world of science fiction and fandom. There will also be trivia with prizes from Quirk Books, WeLoveFine and MVD Entertainment Group as well as plenty of karaoke. Event begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10.

Show starts at 9 p.m. and tickets are $12.
