Newark Waives Penalties, Interest On Back Bills

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey's largest city was waiving interest and penalties for residents who owe property taxes and water and sewer payments.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker said the amnesty program will continue through the end of the month.

Booker said the program will generate millions of dollars in needed revenue for the city.

Payments must be made for the entire delinquent period.

Payments postmarked after Nov. 30 will be assessed interest and penalties.
