NEW YORK (AP / WCBS 880) - A new study shows that Long Island’s growing immigrant population has been readily absorbed into the labor force.

WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reports

The Fiscal Policy Institute analysis found that immigrants worked in a wide range of occupations, with more than half holding white-collar jobs.

The independent research group said there was little basis for a widespread perception that the area’s immigrants were displacing U.S.-born workers.

Anti-immigrant sentiment on Long Island has been on the rise as the immigrant population has grown, especially in Suffolk County where an Ecuadorean immigrant was killed in 2008.

The group warned that a continued anti-immigrant climate could hurt the area’s economy.

Its findings, released Wednesday, were based on census data.

There is something wrong with this state by not inforcing the law and deporting ILLEGAL immigrants. This will be the down fall of this state and country and we will be a 3rd world country within 10 years and sooner if Obama is reelected. If you don’t agree then your part of the problem.

As a New York City resident all my life,I have seen Illegal immigrants working as a majority in many business’s now as they accept ridiculas small wages ! Why not go after the employers that are paying these people off the books and saving a lot of money ! Oh,I forgot I think New York is a sanctuary city !

If you were born, bred and raised in a Great country with FREE EDUCATION and OPEN OPPORTUNITIES, and some illiterate, smelly wet\back who can’t even speak English, can “steal” your job, there is something wrong with you.
