Conn. Gov. Seeks Expanded Snow Disaster Aid
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP/CBSNewYork) -- Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says a disaster declaration by President Barack Obama will help Connecticut's cities and towns fill holes in their budgets left by record-setting snowfall this winter.
The aid will reimburse counties, towns, state agencies and nonprofit groups that responded to a Jan. 12 storm that dumped more than two feet of snow and destroyed dozens of buildings.
Hard-hit Westport will receive more than $100,000 from the federal government, First selectman Gordon Joseloff said that will cover the hole in the town's $400,000 snow budget for this winter.
Joseloff told WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau he wants the declaration extended for entire month.

Malloy said Friday that he will appeal the decision to not include Middlesex and Windham Counties in the disaster declaration.
Counties eligible for assistance include Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, New Haven, New London and Tolland, together with the Tribal Lands of the Mashantucket Pequot and the Mohegan Tribal Nations.
State and federal officials say eligible costs from the Jan. 12 storm are estimated at more than $14 million.
