NEW YORK (CBS 2) – Newark schools are providing counseling for students and staff after a student died on a field trip to California.

Shauna-Kaye Williams, a 16-year-old junior at West Side High School, drowned in a hotel pool in Long Beach on Saturday, school officials said.

Williams and her classmates had flown to California to participate in a robotics competition.

Long Beach police said the drowning appeared to be an accident.
