Bloomberg: Rail ‘No Ride’ List Difficult To Enforce

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Calls for airlines to hand their no-fly lists to the nation’s largest rail carrier are not sitting well with New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Mayor Bloomberg said he’s not keen on the idea of a “no ride” list for Amtrak trains.

“I think in a practical point of view, it would be very difficult to enforce,” he told WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond.

On Sunday, New York senator Charles Schumer was one of those pushing for the “do not ride” list.

“Anyone, even a member of al-Qaida could purchase a train ticket and board an Amtrak train without so much as a question asked,” Schumer said.

While Bloomberg said there are no serious threats to the trains at the moment, security around the city has been tightened in recent days.

“We’re doing everything we can and let us pray nothing happens. The bottom line is I feel safe and you should feel safe going down there,” said Bloomberg.

But rail riders have been more on edge after two major security breaches over the weekend.

Five men in two seperate incidents Sunday managed to sneak in train tunnels under the city.

And last week, intelligence seized during Sunday’s raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound, revealed a plan in the works to target the nation’s rail system, possibly on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Bloomberg says if something did happen the city’s first responders are as prepared as they could possibly be.

Well I may not be able to Fly or travel by train but I can go to the gun shows and by GUNS.

How long before a citizen can be banned from traveling anywhere, by any means, on a bureaucrat’s whim? And will life still be worth living in such an unfree society?

It’s time to support this bi-partisan petition to “stop invasive TSA screening” :

A no ride list would halt all rail and other traffic in the city. We’d need a no bus ride, no bike ride, no car or cab ride, no walking with packages. . .
On and on, down the rabbit hole.. . .
Unless you want religious tets, NO ride rules are impossible to work.

Keep in mind these psychopaths don’t even have to be on the train to commit an attack. All it takes is a pressure trigger somewhere along the traicks and boom, instant derailment. A no-ride list DOES NOT make us safer as a nation and is a further violation of our 4th Amendment right to privacy.

    • Just Saying

The public’s right to safety comes before your right to privacy. If you really think that it’s OK to let the next Mohammed Atta on Amtrak, then you are either completely ignorant or working with them.

I wonder: do you take trains or buses? Have you ever been a victim of a random Terror attack? Do you live in or commute to and from a city?
Somehow I have a feeling you drive and live out West.

When a A$&Hole ( Bloomberg ) opens his mouth S%&T comes out. Completely out of touch with us New Yorkers isn’t he.

We need security, period. Bloomberg is mentally slipping. i don’t let my kids right the trains. the subway system is wide open. the mayor isn’t in harms way like the average commuter. the mayor needs the ride the train without his 200 cops surrounding him, and he will see the light.

Last I checked, our nation’s rail security isn’t handled by the Mayor of New York. A check of one’s ID, passing through a metal detector and a luggage scan are easy to implement and they make riders feel safer. We’ve been pretty lucky nothing has happened to our railways. That doesn’t mean we should continue to have lax security though. Dumb Bloomberg. Just DUMB!!!
