Queens Man Claiming He Was Adrift At Sea Faces Weapons Charge

WANTAGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — An armed man found wandering along Jones Beach State Park in New York with tales of being adrift at sea for days in a raft has been ordered jailed.

Pablo Perez, a 47-year-old resident of Flushing, Queens, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and ordered held on $10,000 cash bail at hospital bedside arraignment on Wednesday.

State police say a jogger encountered Perez on the boardwalk Tuesday wearing a wet suit under his clothes. They say a loaded gun was found in a plastic bag sealed with duct tape in the suit.

Perez told police his raft got separated from his fishing boat. But the U.S. Coast Guard told police it had no reports of a missing boat.

Are we sure this guy ain’t a wayward rabbi?

Sounds like he was planning to kill someone and planned on escaping by way of water. Good job by the jogger to notice something odd and report it.

  6. Rick says:

On face value his story and appearance don’t make sense. Why would he be wearing a wet suit under his clothes? And why would he leave his boat in the first place without sending out a call for help?

More going on here than meets the eye

  7. Guy w. says:

Maybe they should just put this Cuban back on a raft and push him out to sea
