VALHALLA, N.Y. (CBS 2) — Sunday’s storms did nothing to spoil the patriotic spirit at an annual fireworks display in Westchester County.

CBS 2’s Dave Carlin took in the show at Kensico Dam in Valhalla.

“I think the fireworks are spectacular, and happy birthday, America,” Katonah resident Tullio Bruno told Carlin.

The Kensico Dam was dwarfed Sunday night by blasts of color, streaks of light and trails of smoke.

“Everybody’s happy,” one reveler said.

“Simple, but good – I like it,” said Julian Bruno of Katonah.

A crowd estimated at 15,000 people enjoyed the annual Kensico Dam Music and Fireworks Festival. The masses were slow to arrive, however, thanks to the threat of rain.

Those who staked out a spot early came prepared.

“If it did rain, we can all go in and watch the fireworks,” Carmine Proto said.

When it seemed a safe bet that the rain would stay away, though, the place became packed. The food court bustled, live music pulsated, and there were people in motion everywhere.

Then, all eyes were drawn to the sky.

After all was said and done, though, there were some fireworks fans for whom the display was not enough. Christine Stahl said she’ll head into New York City on Monday for the Macy’s Fireworks Show.

“I will go see as many fireworks shows as I possibly can,” she said.
