Authorities: Drowning Death Of NYC Girl Possibly An Accident

MANTOLOKING, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Authorities say the drowning death of a 5-year-old New York City girl in a swimming pool at a southern New Jersey home appears to have been an accident.

Meghan Kelly was found “in distress” in the pool around 3:15 p.m. Saturday and was taken to the Ocean Care Center in nearby Point Pleasant, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Ocean County prosecutors say Meghan’s mother and a sibling were at the pool with her when the incident occurred at the family’s summer home in Mantoloking, but further details were not disclosed.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed Sunday.

This was just one of those hideously awful accidents that unfortunately happen. I know the family, and they would NEVER neglect or put any of their children in danger.

We should hold people accountable for their comments and hypocrisy.

  • never swim alone

There pain and suffering will be enough punishment.Being stupid is not a crime. Not all people should have pools.Kid that young should have life jacket.

what was the mother doing at the time, she was also in the pool, may it been a accident, but the mother and siblings should be held accountable for the dead of that 5 year old angel, may she rest in peace, Amen
