Authorities: Drowning Death Of NYC Girl Possibly An Accident

MANTOLOKING, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities say the drowning death of a 5-year-old New York City girl in a swimming pool at a southern New Jersey home appears to have been an accident.

Meghan Kelly was found "in distress" in the pool around 3:15 p.m. Saturday and was taken to the Ocean Care Center in nearby Point Pleasant, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Ocean County prosecutors say Meghan's mother and a sibling were at the pool with her when the incident occurred at the family's summer home in Mantoloking, but further details were not disclosed.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed Sunday.
