NEW YORK (WFAN / WCBS 880 / AP) — It’s official. The home of the Giants and Jets is going to be called MetLife Stadium for the next 25 years.

The New York-based insurance giant and the teams announced on Tuesday that MetLife has purchased the naming rights for the stadium, which will be the site of the 2014 Super Bowl.

“Today we bring together three iconic New York institutions: the Giants, the Jets and MetLife,” said Giants co-owner John Mara in a statement. “MetLife was one of the stadium’s early supporters, having signed on as the first cornerstone sponsor. We are thrilled to expand the relationship and look forward to kicking off the first of many exciting seasons at MetLife Stadium.”

Neither side disclosed how much MetLife paid for the naming rights.

MetLife chief executive Steven A. Kandarian said his company wanted to partner with a “world-class venue” that would expose its brand to “levels unmatched in the industry.”

The $1.6 billion stadium opened last year. It had been known as New Meadowlands Stadium while the teams sought to sell the naming rights.
