NJ Man Ticketed For Driving Motorcycle With Dog In Lap

MARLBORO, NJ (CBSNewYork) – It was one ruff ride for a motorcycle enthusiast from Tuckerton.

Gyula Szatmari, 56, was cruising on his red BMW motorcycle on Tennent Road with his favorite passenger aboard: His pet pug Bosco, who was sitting in his lap, the Asbury Park Press reported.

According to the report, Szatamari was spotted by a member of the Monmouth County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The police were called, and Szatamari was pulled over.

He was ticketed for careless driving and improper transportation of an animal, according to the report.

Szatamari reportedly told police he’d been riding with his dog that way for years.

He’s expected in court Oct. 13.

What do you think of this? Waste of taxpayer money or a good effort to save the dog? Sound off in our comments section.

    waste of taxpayers monies!!!!!

  • Andrew

its a waste of police time. people, please mind your own business. i wish our govt would do that.

  • Frank

Is this more dangerous than the people who have their animals in their lap, hanging out the drivers window? How about the police & civilians who use the cell or text while driving?

The police ought to worry about IMPORTANT things, and I’ll bet the member of the Monmouth County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is one of the one in the car with their animal in their lap!

Who determines what is cruel? If I had seen that, the thought would not even have crossed my mind. A baby locked in a hot car while the parent is out shopping is cruel. But this is a waste of time and money.

…….and if the dog suddenly decides to jump off and there’s a car next to it and the car swerves and hits another car and someone get hurts is it still ok? It’s an animal for goodness sake and they are unpredictable. If he needs to make a sudden stop and the animal flies off his lap and dies is it still ok? A motorcycle is no place for an animal.

I’m assuming you DON’T own or ride motorcycles ?? because so far 99% of anyone who’s dumb enough to agree with this, doesn’t ride and own pets. You also have zero common sense, and don’t know the law. incase you’re too stupid to realize, the rider would get thrown too in that scenario. most likely from your driving while on your cell. Motorcycles don’t have seat belts, they’re open !!!

The animal was not in his lap, you idiot! It was on a specially crafted platform for him to sit on and he is tethered to it so he cannot jump off. If he had to slam his breaks on, the animal would get a sore neck out of it at worst. Of course, the police didn’t release these details did they? I know this guy. There is nothing dangerous about what he’s doing.

some people are too damn ignorant. they just agree with whatever is thrown at them. look at the pic of the pug on the bike and you can see the soft cushy platform over the tank and the tether to his collar in the pic. I’m just appalled that these idiots from the SPCA are allowed to call police and direct them to hand out tickets ?? are you kidding me?? I hope this guy gets a good lawyer, and sues the pants off both of those officers from the SPCA, and the Police officer learns not to listen to idiots and jeopardize his pension over it.

If he was on a pink bike, it would be acceptable.

  • Steven

    Are you kidding me!!!!

That is not cruelty to animals. This is an owner that enjoys the company of his trusted companion and the dog is enjoying the ride.

    • Juan

Maybe is because the dog wasn’t wearing a seat belt!

    • Fez

      You sir are an idiot

    • TC

Oh please___ this should not be aloud! This will cause an accident not only to himself, DOG and other people on the road!
You need to pay attention on the road.
Even cellphone use__I see people talking on the phone while driving__ I have handsfree on my steering wheel and its great! You can set it to automatic answer for incoming calls.
Bottom line this will cause Death eventually if he gets into a collision with someone on the road.

      • Kieran

so … what do you ride ? I’m assuming your expert opinion was formed from years of owning pets and riding tens of thousands of miles on motorcycles with them ?? because i’m sure you do neither, maybe should crawl back under your rock and in the process, learn to read! Uneducated babble is exactly that.

TC, you clearly know nothing about dogs or motorcycles. Or spelling. Or grammar.
