Police: Hicksville Woman Struck Unconscious During Attempted Burglary

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Hicksville woman was apparently struck unconscious after waking up to find a burglar in her living room Tuesday night.

Police said the 30-year-old woman was asleep in her Heitz Place home when she was awakened by a noise from within her apartment around 11 p.m.

When she walked out her bedroom and turned on the kitchen light she noticed a man with panty hose stretched over his face in her living room walking toward the front door.

Police said the suspect punched the woman in the face causing her to fall to the floor. He then knelt on her chest and struck her in the face again causing her to lose consciousness.

The suspect was gone by the time the victim came to and called police about 30 minutes later.

She was taken to the hospital for treatment of facial injuries and swelling to the left side of her face.

Police say it didn't appear that anything was taken from the home.

Detectives believe the suspect got into the apartment through the front door which may have been left unlocked.

The suspect is believed to be 5'6" to 5'7" tall, 135 to 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark shorts and a dark t-shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
