Ciotti Calling On Former Campaign Worker To Be Fired From Job

ELMONT, NY (CBSNewYork) – Nassau County legislator John Ciotti is calling on the dismissal of a former campaign worker from his job at a county sanitary district after he made racist remarks outside the office of Ciotti's Democratic opponent.

Vincent Prisco was fired from Ciotti's campaign after a video surfaced on YouTube showing Prisco and another man posting Ciotti campaign signs outside the Elmont campaign office of Carrie Solages.

In the video, he can be seen making an obscene gesture to the camera and heard saying remarks like "Call animal control so we can arrest 'em" and  "Don't worry, we will put them on the back of the bus where they belong."

The Republican lawmaker told 1010 WINS Tuesday Prisco's actions were "an embarrassment" and as soon as he saw the video, he fired the campaign worker.

Now, Ciotti also wants Prisco fired from his job at Sanitary District 6.

In a statement released Wednesday, Ciotti said "There is no room for this type of behavior in government, in politics or in our society as a whole."

Ciotti, a co-chair of the Nassau County Anti-Bias Task Force, says he has "absolutely zero tolerance for the abhorrent behavior of Vincent Prisco."

He goes on to say "Now I am calling upon Sanitary District 6 to immediately terminate Mr. Prisco's employment as well.  As a society we cannot turn our backs when this sort of behavior occurs and we must make it clear that we will not accept this behavior."

Also Wednesday, civil rights attorney Fred Brewington, who represents Solages, wants the Justice Department to investigate and monitor the election.

"No one has the right to take the ability to participate in this process from this woman or from this man or any of the people here and that's why at this point, we say to the federal government, come in and grab a hold of this snake by its head before it bites somebody," Brewington said.

Brewington said he has asked the Justice Department to arrest Prisco and charge him with civil rights violations under the Voting Rights Act and under the criminal statutes that deal with the act.
