BETHPAGE, NY (WCBS 880) – It’s the season for giving and on Wedneday, Long Island will have its biggest food and turkey drive of the year.
WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs On The Story
“Hopefully we’re going to collect 5,000 turkeys this year. That’s my goal,” said organizer Linda Armon. “Long Islanders are generous and we take care of each other and when there’s someone in need on Long Island, we help each other and those who have will help.”
They’re also looked for non-perishable food.
The turkey drive outside Bethpage Federal Credit Union at 899 South Oyster Bay Road in Bethpage is until 6 p.m.
The need is bigger than ever according to Island Harvest CEO Randi Dresner. He says more and more people are struggling financially.
“It could have been illness. It could have been recession, but whatever it is, they’re struggling,” she says. “This is probably one of the most difficult years I’ve seen. We are getting calls from people who are just desperate.”
It’s your chance to help a family in need as we head into the holidays.
Thanksgiving is next Thursday.
