NYPD: Off-Duty Cop Subdues Intoxicated Passenger On JetBlue Flight

NEW YORK (AP) — An off-duty New York City police officer subdued and handcuffed an intoxicated passenger who attacked a flight attendant during a scuffle on board a JetBlue plane.

The NYPD says Anibal Mercado intervened after 22-year-old Antonio Ynoa of Brooklyn punched a flight attendant in the face early Sunday on JetBlue Flight 832 from the Dominican Republic to John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Authorities say the assault happened after the attendant told Ynoa to stop drinking duty-free alcohol.

Mercado, a patrol cop in the Bronx, told reporters that he wrestled Ynoa to the ground and restrained him with plastic handcuffs kept on board. JetBlue says the aircraft landed safely.

The FBI says Ynoa will be arraigned Monday in federal court in Brooklyn on charges of assault and interference with a flight crew.

What do the airlines do with people like this? Do they black-list them from buying airline tickets in the future? Is he ever allowed on a plane again? Otherwise he can buy a ticket again tomorrow and do the same thing, right?

was the police man legally allowed to etain this man. If not charges must be dropped and Mr. Ynoa must sue.

ALL AIRLINES EVERYWHERE SHOULD BAN ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION AT ALL TIMES ON ANY PLAN OR PLANE TERMINAL PERIOD…

This is an isolated incident and this officed did a wonderful job.But the curent policy of not boarding intoxicated passengers,or refusing to serve them when they have had enough suffices. Many nervous fliers say a drinkin the air relaxes them, and at seven bucks a drink in coach the airline makes a decent profit. They will not stop.

they should have thrown him out of the plane…who needs low lives like this in the air?
