RED BANK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Jon Bon Jovi is the latest celebrity to fall victim to a social media death hoax.
The Internet was abuzz on Monday after a fake press release surfaced claiming the New Jersey rocker had died of cardiac arrest.
But he quickly showed his sense of humor, assuring fans he was alive and well through Facebook and Twitter. He posted a photo of himself holding a sign that read, “Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey.” It was dated Dec. 19, 2011, 6 p.m.
Happy fans rocked the night away with Bon Jovi at a charity concert hours after the hoax at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank.
Bon Jovi isn’t the first celebrity to fall victim to fake death rumors; Scott Baio and Eddie Murphy have both recently faced rumors of their demise.
News of Kim Jong Il’s death led to a bit of confusion. Some social media users thought rapper Lil’ Kim had died.
