Linsanity!

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — Not every athlete is caught up in the Linsanity.

Unbeaten boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. tweeted a swipe Monday at the Knicks’ point guard sensation.

Mayweather posted on Twitter: “Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he’s Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don’t get the same praise.”

Lin, the NBA’s first American-born player of Chinese or Taiwanese decent, came with little expectations after he was undrafted out of Harvard and cut by two other teams before the Knicks picked him up in December.

The unknown Lin has taken over the Big Apple. Since Feb. 4, he has led the Knicks to five straight victories, including a 38-point game against the Lakers.

Mayweather was criticized for his race comment, but the boxer wouldn’t back down in a series of tweets.

“Other countries get to support/cheer their athletes and everything is fine,” he tweeted later Monday. “As soon as I support Black American athletes, I get criticized.”

He added in another post: “I’m speaking my mind on behalf of other NBA players. They are programmed to be politically correct and will be penalized if they speak up.”

Mayweather rarely hesitates to air racially charged opinions, either in person or in social media. He has repeatedly insulted rival Manny Pacquiao, including an online video in 2010 in which he used racial and homophobic slurs against the Filipino congressman.

What do you think of Mayweather’s comments? Sound off below…

    Mayweather is a racist. Boycott

    • A “Going Postal” Worker

      rocker90 – I agree!

Mayweather doesn’t seem to have too many brain cells left.
It seems that people like him (including a few who usually contribute to CBS’ blog), seem to “dumb down” everthing to race!! That, in my view, is a sign of someone with a low I.Q.

  • D-man1980

Mayweather is a joke. Another of these over paid athletes that thinks his opinion matters. Playing the race today is as big a joke as anything. His feelings are hurt because people are cheering Lin on. Instead of showing your jealousy through Twitter just grow up. Cheer for Lin or just keep quiet. Boxing is dead by the way.

  • jWilly234

Not sure about Lin but people’s hatred of Maywether sees no color, people simply dislike him because he’s a infantile jerk.

  • aha

    He tweets with his toes.

  • Bullett

I think Mayweather has been hanging around Sharpton too much.

  • Tommy C

Mayweather=P.O.S RACIST ….Punkass fool. Hey Floyd !!! when you decide to grow some balls and fight Manny then maybe your comments would carry some weight . Until then your a POS in most peoples opinion, except the other racist fools.

  • getalife

He may be unbeaten but he sure sounds like a big loser. Sounds like a racial remark. I guess you can call this reverse discrimination. I suppose when he loses his title (and it will happen) he will come up with reasons why he lost and blame on someone else and not because someone was better than him……………

  • pacman

Are you serious, “Money”? Stop ducking Pacquiao and then talk. The whole world now knows you’re afraid of Asians. Punkazz wife beater. Have fun being someone’s butt boy in jail.

  • Amtracmarine

Mayweather is a tool. This is about staying relivent.

  • blahblahblah

Being Asian is just part of his ‘underdog’ thing. Look at Victor Cruz, Wayne Chrebet, other NY ‘underdogs’ we’ve rooted for because they worked their way up. The more positive things there are to root for, the more hype. If Mayweather went to Harvard, I’d root for him too. Mayweather is a racist who has been hit in the head too many times.

  • raceless-dan

Can coach Mayweather tell D’antoni the other Knick players that do what Lin does every night? Any race please. Doesn’t matter to me. Don’t think it matters to D’antoni. Black, Hispanic, white, Asian, Spanish, purple, martian. I’ll take anybody. Oh wait!! There is Tony Douglas, Melo, and Shumpert. Right? Wrong! There is Jeremy Lin!

  • Joe

Obviously Floyd has been hit in the head one too many times. It’s a great story right now. If he was white, black, asian, or pakistani, bottom line is he’s playing in New York and that’s just the type of recognition you get playing there. So Floyd, cut the jealousy out.

  • elroy

Bla Bla Bla Floyd… Give the world a break and find somethig productive to talk about. If this story bothers you so much, the NBA can live without you as a fan. Floyd, your a jackass.

  • Phil Esteen

Floyd…shut your racist piehole, stop talking out the side of your neck and use it for what it was intended…to hold up your empty head.

‘Flawed Merry Weather’ needs to stick to hitting human beings with his fists because he isn’t qualified to give his opinion on ‘why weebles wobble and don’t fall’ much less the success of Jeremy Lin.

  • Justin

This reminds of the comments Rush Limbaugh made about Donovan McNabb a few years back. Rush’s comments were racist then and he deserved the scorn he got. Floyd is just as bad and is making the same racist comments now. Somehow I doubt Floyd will see the same fallout.

    • Sorrowful Soros

The two comments are not even in the same context. Get a life.

      • Justin

Hmm, lets think. Rush on McNabb – He’s gets overly praised because he’s black. Mayweather on Lin – He gets overly praised because he’s asian. Sounds the same to me. Are you a dittohead in you or are you a Mayweather fan? Either way, I think I detect a bit of bias in your reply…

        • ed

the difference is that one was true and one is not. Too bad you’re not smart enough to see the difference. Even that other black commentator agreed with Rush. Lin’s praise matches up with what he’s been doing this past week.

        • cjk

Product of public education who can’t understand the difference between a truthful comment and a racist one. DUH.

    • brady

This is a repeat comment for another post that incorrectly commented on what Limbaugh said about McNabb. Don’t any of you knuckleheads actually read anything before you form an opinion?
Except Limbaugh never said anything like that. What he said was “The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn’t deserve. The defense carried this team.” There was nothing racists about the comment. His comment was a comment of the mentality of the sports media. And in true form of a liberal liar about race in this country you lie about what he said, and what he is.

  • Yang

He’s dumb “Black players do what he does every night and don’t get the same praise.” umm…it’s called Kobe,Melo,James,Wade etc. Has he not watch sportcenter top 10 of the night? Blake with all his dunk. It would be nice if he took care of business and make the Pacquiao match happen. Then he’ll see first hand what Asian can do!

  • AMata

If he was Black … he would Still be a Great Player… But if he was a Monkey It would be a Three Ring Circus

  • sgtx

Floyd is an idiot and should do a little research before opening his mouth. Lin is the first NBA Player with an average of 20 points and 7 assists in his first 4 starts. Lin has scored 89 points and 109 points in his first 3 and 4 starts, the most by any player since the nba/aba merger. So yes, Lin is worth the hype asian or not!

  • RJN

I hope Mayweather will be stupid enough to stay in the ring until a young fighter will rise to clean his clock.

  • Sunny

The fact that he is asian and is leading the Knicks to victories when all the other black players couldn’t step up has a lot to do with it. And in a sport where I get excited to see a white guy on the court, its nice to see someone else get the spotlight for a change. But the basis of the argument is that he is kicking ass right now, being asian just makes the news more interesting.

  • Bruce

Maybe Floyd is having the same feelings many whites had years age when Afican Americans were showing thier skills. People better get used to it

    • Knowledge

Oh, yeah, because we all know that blacks achieved their certain sports domination solely based upon skill (Thank affirmative action).

  • Glev

This is why even boxers at the highest level should be required to wear protective headgear.

    • greene opinion

      LOL!

  • henry uphill

Exactly there are many black players all good. The fact that he is asian makes it all the more hyped because there is only one.. RE–T==ARD

  • Graves

The word Hypocrite comes to mind as well as a few others but I think this fits best.

  • Vic Damone

The root of the “hype” is that he came out of nowhere to provide the knicks a stay of execution during a slow sports cycle. Victor Cruz was given a lot of hype too…did floyd have a problem with that? The fact that he played at harvard and is asian may make the story that much more interesting b/c he is different from everyone else in the league. How is that being spun into a bad thing? Isn’t diversity supposed to be good?

    • greene opinion

Amen Bubba! I am probably older than all of you and was alive when Dr King was killed. I thought all that racist crap ended in the early 70′s. It seems that kids (under 50) are more racist now than ever. Maybe they should all get a hood and a cross to burn. Who the heck cares about this crap? Knicks are winning.
