Eileen Lehpamer of 1010 WINS was at the Lincoln Center AMC Theater, where there were 13 screenings -- all starting between midnight and 12:30 a.m.

The fans, many dressed in costume, arrived hours before the showings even though they bought their tickets more than a month ago.

There was plenty of gold face paint, teal wigs and even a woman with a bow and arrow imitating "The Hunger Games" heroine Katniss Everdeen.

"Believe me, I have carried some crazy stuff down the streets of New York City, but a bow and arrow...," she told Lehpamer.

Fandango said it was selling 10 tickets per second. The sci-fi action film stars Jennifer Lawrence.

"The Hunger Games" is expected to set a box office record for a March release.
