ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - It’s an offer too good to refuse.

Following two burglaries in Englewood Cliffs this week, Police Chief Michael Cioffi is on a mission to help all residents harden their homes to make them more secure.

“Anybody in town can contact me by writing a letter to my office, and we will send an officer from our Crime Prevention Bureau to survey your house and give you tips on how to secure it in a better fashion,” Cioffi told WCBS 880’s Sean Adams. “As per lighting, door locks, your shrubbery, things of that nature”

The service is free for residents of Englewood Cliffs as long as they send a letter to the chief of police.

“We have several people in our Crime Prevention Bureau that have been trained extensively, and they’ve very good,” Cioffi added. “It’s a very, very good service. We will work with you to try to protect your house, your property and your lives.”

The procedure is intended to let residents know where their home’s vulnerable spots are before a potential burglar does.
