NYPD: Man Posing As Police Officer Robs Canarsie Home

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are asking for the public's help in finding a phony cop who they say carried out a robbery in Canarsie on Wednesday.

The suspect knocked on the door of a home near Canarsie Road around 12:30 p.m. and identified himself as a police officer, saying he was investigating a break-in and asked to come inside, police said.

The suspect apparently had a gold police shield around his neck and was wearing an NYPD jacket.

Once inside the home, police said the suspect pulled out a gun, tied up the victims and covered their heads before letting another suspect into the residence.

The suspects made off with cash, police said.

The suspect is believed to be between 35- and 45-years-old with a thin build, light complexion, and light dirty blond hair, police said. A description of his alleged accomplice is not available.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
