NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Authorities are investigating after an off-duty FBI agent shot at three suspects trying to break into a car early Wednesday morning in Queens, according to officials.

The shooting happened at about 5:15 a.m. on Sutter Avenue in South Ozone Park.

1010 WINS’ Juliet Papa reports

The off-duty agent and his wife were awoken by the sounds of someone trying to break into their red Lexus that was parked outside their home, sources told 1010 WINS.

That’s when the agent looked out his window, saw the three suspects around his car, took out his standard issue weapon and opened fire, sources said.

At least one of the suspects was shot in the back, the FBI confirmed.

The NYPD has sealed off 130th Street and Sutter Avenue as police and the FBI continue to investigate.
