Anticipation Builds For Boomer & Carton's Trip To Jets Camp, Tebow Interview

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- First came the comment. Then, the backlash.

And coming soon: the interview.

Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton are heading to the Jets' complex in Florham Park on Thursday morning for a special edition of their morning drive program on WFAN.

What makes this trip extra compelling? Let's take a stroll down memory lane to Aug. 6, when Boomer, a former Jets quarterback himself, said he'd cut backup Tim Tebow.

"I just think this whole thing ... is a major mistake," he said.

Well, Tebow is expected to join Boomer and Carton on Thursday.

Starting quarterback Mark Sanchez, coach Rex Ryan and general manager Mike Tannenbaum are among the other big names who will be heard during the Gang Green-dominated show. And there will be plenty of hot-button issues on the table besides Tebow, like the future of shaky right tackle Wayne Hunter.

"We're gonna get the answers," Carton declared Wednesday morning. "We're going to be like Tom Brokaw and Dan Rather."

Esiason wasn't as certain as his radio partner.

"The reason you're not going to get answers is because they're going to say just exactly what the party line is," he said.

Esiason faced some tough criticism after he leveled the Tebow comments, including from former Giants backup quarterback and current NFL analyst Tim Hasselbeck, who called Boomer's stance "laughable" and "idiotic."

Esiason never backed down. Actually, he and Carton may have since doubled down.

And it'll soon be Tebow facing arguably his two biggest detractors.

"I've heard nothing but great things about Mr. Esiason," the 25-year-old responded earlier this month. "I know he was a great player here and I wish him nothing but the best in his announcing. God bless him."

What will happen when the three heavyweights have at it? Will Tebow's vintage charm put a dent in Boomer and Carton?

Stay tuned...
