Generator Safety, Consumer Tips In The Wake Of Sandy
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — In an area that is prone to storms and power failures, a generator can be a great investment.
But the electricity producing device can also be dangerous. Fire, for instance, is just one of the hazards associated with using generators.
With so many people left in the dark after Superstorm Sandy, many are using them as a source of power.
Dan DiClerico, a senior editor with Consumer Reports, visited The Couch with tips on buying and using portable generators.
“It can be your best friend in a power failure,” Clerico said. “But it’s a powerful piece of equipment and you really need to respect that.”
Carbon monoxide, fire and electrocution are just some of the dangers associated with the device.
