Lawyers: Reports Of Settlement Between DSK, Maid 'Flatly False'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Lawyers say reports of a $6 million settlement between former International Monetary Fund Chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn and a hotel maid who accused him of rape are "flatly false."

Strauss-Kahn's attorneys William Taylor III and Amit Mehtathe say both parties have discussed a resolution, but no settlement has been reached between their client and Nafissatou Diallo.

"Media reports that Dominique Strauss-Kahn has agreed to pay $6 million to settle the civil case are flatly false," the attorneys said in a statement. "Mr. Strauss-Kahn will continue to defend the charges if no resolution can be reached."

Diallo said Strauss-Kahn tried to rape her when she arrived to clean his room at the Sofitel Hotel in May of last year.

He was arrested, but the charges were later dropped after prosecutors lost faith in Diallo's credibility. That's when she filed a civil lawsuit accusing him of assault.

The lawsuit claims Diallo "did not know that defendant Strauss-Kahn was the head of the IMF…" at the time of the incident.

Strauss-Kahn, who returned to France after the charges were dropped, has claimed diplomatic immunity should protect him from the lawsuit.

He countersued for $1 million earlier this year.

The New York Times first reported that an agreement had been reached.
