2 Charged With Teen's Murder In Far Rockaway
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two suspects were charged Sunday in connection with a shooting this weekend that left a 17-year-old boy dead outside a low-income housing development in Far Rockaway.
Dashawn Deverow, 21, of 78-00 Shore Front Pkwy. in Queens, and Jamane Yarbrough, 16, of 54-09 Almeda Ave. in Queens, were both charged with murder in the early Saturday morning shooting that killed Xavier Granville. Deverow was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
Granville was found by police around 12:33 a.m. Saturday in front of 249 Beach 15th St., in the Oceanview II housing development, with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A neighbor, Melissa, was just trying to go to work. But she couldn't get out the front door of her building.
"I was coming out the elevator and I saw a trail of blood, and then when I got to the front door I saw all the police tape. I didn't know what was going on, and then I came outside, I see all the cops, and from what I'm hearing, somebody got killed," she said.
Sources with knowledge of the investigation told 1010 WINS the shooting was gang-related, and described Granville as a career criminal.
