NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 25-year-old Queens man has been charged in what was the first homicide of 2013 in New York City.

Raymond Mayrant, of 41-12 12th St. in Queens, was charged Friday with murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon, in the shooting that killed Elzina Brown, 59, and wounded her daughter, on Jan. 3.

Brown was found with a gunshot wound to her chest around 12:55 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 1790 Story Ave. in the Soundview section of the Bronx. Brown's 22-year-old daughter was also found with a gunshot wound to her face.

The younger woman was taken to Jacobi Medical Center after the shooting. Police on Saturday did not update her condition.

Mayrant was identified as the suspect shortly after the shooting.

Police have not specified a motive for the shooting, or indicated whether there was any relationship between the gunman and the victims.
