Jets Sign RB Mike Goodson To Reported 3-Year Deal

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Goodbye, Shonn Greene.

Hello, Mike Goodson.

Goodson has signed on as the newest member of the Jets, the team announced on Friday. His contract is worth $6.9 million over three years, according to multiple reports.

"Its official, Im a New York Jet!!!!!!" Goodson tweeted Friday morning.

The running back will have a chance to at least partially fill the shoes left behind by Greene, who signed with the Tennessee Titans earlier this week.

Greene was drafted by New York in the third round of the 2009 draft. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in two straight seasons (2011-12), though he took his lumps at times in 2012 for his role in the Jets' anemic offense.

Goodson rushed for 221 yards on 35 carries for the Oakland Raiders last season.

He was a fourth-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in '09. Goodson's most productive season came in 2010, when he rushed 103 times for 452 yards and three touchdowns. The 25-year-old added 40 catches for 310 and a touchdown that year for the Panthers.

The Jets also have running backs Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight, two players expected to get touches in the backfield.

New offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg recently told the Jets' official website that New York's rushers could see more passes in his West Coast offense.

"If our backs have that talent, you will certainly see that a little bit more than you have in the past," Mornhinweg said.
