Police Seek To Identify Man, Woman Who May Have Been Abducted In Washington Heights

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Sunday were asking the public to help identify two possible kidnapping victims who may have been kidnapped in Washington Heights.

The man and woman were last seen walking west on 173rd Street and turning onto Haven Avenue Friday evening, just before being approached by two unknown men.

The woman was described as wearing a long white coat with dark pants, while the man was described as wearing all dark clothing.

In a surveillance video, the man and woman are seen walking down the street from a distance, shortly before the van containing the men suspected of kidnapping them speeds around the corner.

Around 6:55 p.m. Friday, several people called police after hearing a woman scream, and seeing two men force her and the man into a vehicle at gunpoint near 173rd Street and Haven Avenue.

The driver of the minivan fled south on Haven Avenue, police said.

As of Sunday evening, nobody had been reported missing. But neighbors were shocked by the abduction, 1010 WINS Reporter Gary Baumgarten reported Saturday night.

"It's a good area, it's a nice neighborhood. I used to walk my dog here all the time," said Christian.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers Web site, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
