NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) — Vehicle traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge was shut down on Saturday afternoon while police officers worked to talk a man down off of the bridge’s Manhattan Tower.
Police, donning helmets and orange vests, scaled the bridge’s cables to get to the man who was perched on top of the 276-foot tower, the New York Post reported.
Officers speaking with 1010 WINS Reporter Gary Baumgarten described a tense scene.
“At multiple points we were concerned that, as close as he was to the edge, and based on statements that he made, we thought he was going to jump off the tower,” said Sgt John Flynn.
The man was eventually brought down and taken into custody. After three hours of delays, traffic began moving again shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday.
